Captain Mark Richards specializes in sight fishing Redfish year around. From Nov. through mid-March the big girls can be found on shallow flats adjacent to deep water. These flats off main channels are generally 10" to 3' deep. Water clarity is such you can see these brute (many over 40", 25 to 35 lbs.) cruising the shallow flats looking for an easy meal. When these brute move back out to the passes we concentrate inside the marsh in shallow ponds and coves and catch slot fish (16" - 27"). The slot limit is 5 fish per person per day with one over slot allowed per angler per day. Redfish are excellent table fare either on the half shell baked or grilled. They are also very good filleted and fried. Slot fish can be found year round inside the marsh in shallow ponds. Prime trout starts in Late April/May as they transition out of the marsh to the outside. Fast and furious action is not uncommon May, June and July with them coming into the boat 2 at a time on double rigs. In the marsh, Captain Mark fishes out of a 19' Trans Cat equipped with a Suzuki 150 hp outboard motor. It drafts around 8" depending on the load and can run in 3" to 6" of water. It is also equipped with a Minn Kota Talon, Minn-Kota remote controlled trolling motor, Lowrance HDS 9 and a 7' tower on the bow of the boat. This puts the anglers up high to help see the fish and experience watching the fish turn and charge to eat the baits. This is something you will remember for a very long time. We are hunting fish. I have an excellent knowledge of where these fish are, but they do move around. Hence, Hunting Red. If you enjoy hunting and fishing I’ve taken both elements and married it into a thrill packed day on the water. What to bring- I supply all rods, reels and artificial baits, but if you prefer, by all means bring your own. A quality pair of polarized sun glasses is a must have to see the fish under the water. Sunscreen, ball cap, depending on the time of year a jacket and rain gear. Full day rate is $800.00 for up to 3 anglers.$700.00 for 2 On rare occasion bait, shrimp or crab may be the best options for the conditions. This can run an additional $20.00 to $60.00. I leave this up to the party. I may suggest it if the conditions are such that it is the best option to boat fish but I rarely use it. I also have lodging available.
