"Sugar Bares" as we call him because he is so sweet. Mike has been guiding with us for a little over five years now. This is Mike's third career. He was an engineer on a submarine in Navy. Mike retired for the Petro Chemical Industry with PPG to become a full time professional fishing guide. His passion for putting people on fish and a smile on their face has made Mike a great asset here at the lodge. Captain Michael fishes inshore out of Lake Charles with Hackberry Rod and Gun. Captain Michael specializes in fishing for speckled trout, red fish and flounder. Originally founded in 1975 by Terry Shaughnessy and his wife Martha, Hackberry Rod and Gun has grown to be the largest and most respected guide service along the gulf coast. The Stansel brothers, Kirk, Guy, and Bobby began their fishing and hunting careers as teenagers right here on Lake Calcasieu. Thirty-eight years later they are among the most respected fisherman and hunters in the country and now own and operate Hackberry Rod and Gun.

Located in the southwest corner of Louisiana the small town of Hackberry has become known as the SPECKLED TROUT CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. It produces big speckled trout, redfish, flounder, and lots of them.

The vast marshes surrounding Hackberry and Lake Calcasieu are like a magnet for waterfowl migrating down both the Central and Mississippi flyways. The waterways surrounding them provide for world-class hunting and fishing for speckled trout, redfish, and flounder.

The atmosphere is that of salty air, fishing tackle, hunting gear, and retrievers greeting new and returning customers. Dining at Hackberry Rod and Gun is also available and you will be able to enjoy some of the best Louisiana cooking you have ever tasted. The guides and staff are professional, full of personality and always want to make you stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

FISHING PRICES 2014

FLAT RATE
•$650 per boat per day Monday-Sunday (1-3 People)
•Trip includes guided inland saltwater fishing trip, artificial lures, fuel and ice on the boat.
•Fishermen provide their own beverages & lunches.
•Lodging is available the night before $70 per person plus tax (breakfast included)
•If needed - Lunches $25 per person
•If needed - Rods/Reels $10 per person
•If available - Live Bait $17 per quart

PACKAGE RATE
•$435 per person per day (2-3 people per boat)
•Package includes dinner, lodging the night before, breakfast, fully guided inland saltwater fishing trip with artificial lures, lunches, cold drinks and water on the boat.
•If needed - Rods/Reels $10 per person
•If available - Live Bait $17 per quart

AFTERNOON FISHING
•$650 per boat (1-3 People)
•Trip includes guided inland saltwater fishing trip (4 hour trip-returning before dark), artificial lures, fuel and ice on the boat
•If needed - Rods/Reels $10 per person
•If available - Live Bait $17 per quart

NIGHT STALKER
•$1650 per boat per day (1-6 People) (Sunday-Saturday)
•Night Stalker trip includes dinner, a guided nighttime fishing trip, and lodging until noon.

ADDITIONAL COST
•All Licenses (Resident & Non-Resident) can be purchased at our lodge.
•Fish Cleaning ($0.30 per fish)
•Live Bait ($17 per quart)
•Rod Rentals ($10 per rod)
•Offshore Fishing ($50 extra)
•Ice ($2 per bag)

FISHING RESERVATIONS
•A 50% deposit is required when you book your trip (all credit cards accepted)
•If 1-5 Boats are booked, we require 2 week in advance cancellation notice.
•If 6 or more boats are booked, we require 1 month in advance cancellation notice.
•If cancellation notices are not met in time, deposit will be lost.
•Trips cancelled due to weather can be rescheduled.

THE FINE PRINT
•There will be a 15% charge for refunds that were charged to credit cards.
•Ask about our corporate memberships and gift certificates.
•Company and personal checks accepted as well as, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
•There will not be an additional fuel surcharge unless fuel prices reach $3/GL.
•Offshore charges will remain $50 unless fuel prices reach $3/GL.
